Amethyst - Alfons Mucha
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Czech-born Art Nouveau artist Alfons Mucha created four portraits of women inspired by gems: emerald, topaz, ruby and finally amethyst. The latter is symbolised here by gigantic irises and by the purple fabric draped over the model's legs. The work is part of the gemstone series which also includes Ruby and Topaz.
