Colored Forms I - August Macke
A pioneer of pictorial expressionism in Germany, August Macke actively contributed to the formation of the artist group Der Bleue Reiter with Vassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc. This work reflects the painter's desire to move towards an increasingly abstract interpretation of his subject. It is the first of aseries of paintings entitled 'Farbige Formen' ('Coloured Forms' in German), completed a few months before the young Macke's death in France.
