Living Nature - Frida Kahlo
Excellent
L'œuvre en bref
Created towards the end of her life, Living Nature is one of Frida Kahlo's most symbolic still lifes. It transcends the traditional genre by incorporating cosmic and spiritual elements. The work explores the cycles of life, death and rebirth, in a composition rich in color and symbols from Mexican culture.
In the foreground, a group of tropical fruits is arranged above a network of roots: open pitahayas, citrus fruits, tubers and a black avocado. Among them is a white dove, an allusion to peace or the soul. In the background, two stars - a sun with human features and a pale moon - hover on either side of the painting, evoking the passage of time or the dualism of day and night. The word ‘NATURALEZA VIVA’ (Living Nature) is inscribed in gold letters among the roots, underlining the idea that even inanimate objects, in this case fruit, are part of the life cycle.
