The Beach at Etretat - Claude Monet
Claude Monet lived in Etretat for a few years to work on a number of paintings of the cliffs and the sea. These landscapes had already been depicted by famous artists such as Delacroix and Courbet. Fascinated by the works of his peers, the artist wished to paint this Normandy region in his own way. Wandering the beach for hours, constantly looking for a place of exceptional natural beauty and perfect light, Monet has in this masterpiece, faithfully represented the ferocity of the limestone cliffs hugging the sea.
