William Turner was an English romantic painter whose work was known for its expressive use of colour and light. Turner was particularly interested in the effects of weather, and many of his paintings depict storms at sea or other natural phenomena. Turner's work has had a lasting impact on subsequent generations of artists, and he is considered one of the most important British painters. Fort Vimieux is one of his most famous romantic paintings.
