Robert Delaunay came to prominence in the early 20th century as part of the avant-garde movement known as Cubism. However, Delaunay's style quickly diverged from that of his contemporaries, as he began to experiment with bright colours and geometric shapes. These experiments led to the formation of the art movement of Orphism, of which Delaunay was a leading member. Throughout his career, Delaunay continued to push the boundaries of colour and form, creating some of the most innovative and influential paintings of the early modern period. Today, his work is celebrated worldwide and can be found in many important museums and galleries. Air, Iron and Water, Study is one of his best known works.
