The Yacht at Le Havre - Raoul Dufy
Excellent
L'œuvre en bref
Throughout the 20th century, Raoul Dufy painted numerous views of the port of his native Le Havre. These maritime scenes occupy an important place in his work, where he captures the bustle of the docks, the regattas and the festive sailboats. Inspired by the colors of the sea and the movements of port life, he treats these subjects with a free touch, without any concern for exact realism, but with a strong sense of legibility.
The painting shows a bustling harbor, where boats are moored, decorated with colorful pennants. The atmosphere is bright but gentle, with a pale sky and a sea of green and blue reflections. The harbor buildings are suggested in the background. The brushwork is soft, with blurred outlines and slightly washed-out colors, evoking a scene seen from a distance or in the mist. The overall impression is one of calm, centered on the mast of the decorated boat.
