Flower of life - Frida Kahlo
Excellent
L'œuvre en bref
In this singular work, Frida Kahlo fuses the organic and the imaginary to create a hybrid creature, halfway between flower and animal. The central figure rests on a bed of broad brown leaves and has a body that evokes both a flowering plant and an animal torso. The clawed arms, stretched out on either side, add an eerie dimension to the whole.
In place of a face, a cluster of luminous pistils shoots up in a spray from the top of the plant, recalling both an explosion and a birth. In the background, a glowing sun and a flash of yellow accentuate the painting's strange, almost supernatural atmosphere. The composition evokes the tensions between life and death, light and darkness, often explored in Kahlo's work. This ‘flower’ seems to embody a raw, untamed vital force, while at the same time bearing the marks of profound suffering or transformation.
