Park of the Château du Pont under snow, Louveciennes - Camille Pissarro
Excellent
L'œuvre en bref
A snow-covered path runs through a wooded park with bare trees. Snow covers the ground, branches and roofs visible in the background. A small building, partly hidden by vegetation, stands in the centre left of the scene. On the right, a human figure walks through the snow, accompanied by a dog. The whole scene is bathed in a cold, diffuse light under a light grey sky.
In this painting, Camille Pissarro depicts the grounds of the Château du Pont in Louveciennes in the middle of winter. The palette is limited to shades of white, grey and brown, with a few darker touches for the trees and shadows. The paint is thick and the brushstrokes visible, giving the snow a sense of depth. The atmosphere is silent, almost motionless, and the artist strives to convey the feeling of cold and solitude characteristic of winter landscapes.
