Charing Cross Bridge - Camille Pissarro
Excellent
L'œuvre en bref
A bridge spans the Thames horizontally, connecting the two banks of London under a vast clear sky. In the background, the silhouettes of the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey can be seen, slightly blurred by the luminous atmosphere. Several boats, sailing ships and loaded barges float on the calm water. On the right, a row of trees lines the quays, leading to a large Gothic-style building.
In this view of Charing Cross Bridge, Camille Pissarro adopts the technique of pointillism, applying small touches of colour to render the effects of light and mist. The palette is dominated by pale blues, light yellows and soft purples, giving the painting a sense of air and distance. The water subtly reflects the sky and the boats. The artist captures a lively London scene while maintaining a calm, almost suspended atmosphere.
