Spring. Plum trees in blossom - Camille Pissarro
Excellent
L'œuvre en bref
An orchard in full bloom occupies the entire foreground. The trees, probably plum trees, are covered with white flowers that spread out like a luminous veil. In the background, several houses with light-coloured facades and sloping roofs can be seen, built on a slight slope. The sky is clear, dotted with clouds, and bathes the scene in soft light.
In this painting, Camille Pissarro depicts a spring landscape near a village, probably Éragny. The colours are fresh, dominated by pale greens, warm browns and bright whites. The brushstrokes are fragmented and visible, giving the foliage a vibrant appearance. The architecture blends partially into the flowering vegetation, reflecting the harmony between nature and the built environment. The eye is guided from the rows of trees to the houses, in a balanced composition rich in detail.
